Lame Name Game

Out: Barons and Thunderbirds.
In: Thunder and Outlaws.

All four of these are the lamest names ever. Besides that Newsok.com shows that 1000 registered users are the ones voting, i’m sorry, but you’re voice doesn’t speak for everyone. These names are gay. Just when you think Oklahoma is moving up with a great franchise, we create utter backwards stupidity with the name. I disagree with anything “weather” related. Wow, let’s be the twisters or huge dark cloud. I also disagree with anything that incorporates some inbred thought of cowboys and indians.

How about something original and not so country podunk?

But just as a starting point, here are the current list of 30 NBA Teams:

76ers, Blazers, Bobcats, Bucks, Bulls, Cavs, Celtics, Clippers, Grizzlies, Hawks, Heat, Hornets, Jazz, Kings, Knicks, Lakers, Magic, Mavs, Nets, Nuggets, Pacers, Pistons, Raptors, Rockets, Sonics, Spurs, Suns, Timberwolves, Wizards, Warriors.

Think of some of these names that have been actually picked.. then develop your own. I like Rush as a name. A lot of the names envolve animals, types of people, car parts, aviation, and weather.

This guy is full of crap. OKC is a perfect place for an NBA team. Of course these guys only see it from a non-Oklahoman standpoint. TV markets.. who gives a crap. If you were to take OKC and Tulsa as one television market, it would place us in the lower twenties on the list for television markets. On top of TV markets, if you counted all the large cities around Oklahoma who do not have NBA teams, you have a high average of potential viewers outside our TV market that could equal even some of the larger cities like New York and Los Angeles. ESPN again, proves themselves to be D-bags. Congratulations.

Seattle.. naw, OKC Supersonics

Northwest, meet Southwest.

We’ve all heard it by now, the NBA has approved the move of the Seattle Supersonics to Oklahoma City via the big time, Clay Bennett. The more blogs I read about this, the more hatred I see that some Seattle dwellers have for OKC and it’s sports teams Oklahoma based owners. I don’t know what the big deal is.. Sure, there are some hardcore Supersonic fans, but apparently not enough support to make your own team feel at home. If there were, would there be a problem to endorse the $500 million to spend and build the new arena the old owners wanted… guess so since there were threats already to move the team elsewhere. I already know it’s not going to happen. Seattle tax payers are still hurting from the enormous amount of debt they are still in with the building of Qwest Field, Safeco Field, and the now demolished Kingdome. While I will agree that Key Arena is perfectly fine for the Supersonics to play in, there are more things that go along with pride and ownership of a team for fans than the horrible aesthetics that plague Key Arena. How can you take pride in something that happens in an old facility that needs to be updated?

Imagine walking into a place where your mood is already set by the ail failings of a non aesthetic pleasing building such as the Key Arena? Where is the support for a team who’s city can’t even afford to upgrade it’s own arena, and it won’t happen because of the way Seattle has already been screwed by other major team owners with the burden of taxes to fund there new play grounds for there teams. I don’t feel that the City of Seattle will support this.

What if they do upgrade or build a new arena and attendance is still low and the owners decide to move the team. You’re still footing the bill on a now empty venue. The problems you faced with the Supersonics, would the NBA allow you to have another team, if not for several years later?

Where do you place the blame? On the gullible citizens of Seattle for allowing other sports franchise owners to string you up and beat the taxes out of you, of which you are still paying today, or the lack of support from fans for what is happening. If you had actually decided to get out and support your home team, there wouldn’t be a discussion of the team moving. Now you’re pissed and poking fun at the City of Oklahoma City because we were able to show the support for the New Orleans Hornets when they came to Oklahoma City after Hurricane Katrina. Maybe it’s because in our “small market” we had an average attendance of more than 18,000 people at the Hornets home games? Oklahoma LOVES sports. As if some of you couldn’t tell, we love our College and University sports teams. We even have enough to share with a National team we can call our own. So what if we are called a small market, obviously the chairman of the NBA, the relocation team composed of three other NBA team owners, and our own hometown boy Clay Bennett thinks we can support a team. Proof being what we did for the NO Hornets.

Apparently OKC is doing the right things and Seattle just… isn’t.

Depressed Entrepreneur

What a side time I live in… I have a lot of ideas for businesses, websites… etc. I just can’t find funding or a programmer. I’ve got the design down.. I just want some help here. I wanted to start doing digital billboards instead of the plain jane single advertising ones you see along the highways… that was four years ago. Now we have them popping up all over the metro OKC area… boy was I late on getting that one. Then I had a web idea, only because I get tired of filling in the same information about me and trying to memorize thirty different sets of usernames and passwords… it would have been a universal ID, that with supporting websites, you be able to just put in your universal U/P and bam.. part of whatever group you needed to be apart of.. i was thinking of hitting up phpBB and other forum software sites. I just couldn’t get my head around stopping spammers ALL the way. I had a few ideas, but I wasn’t completely sure if it would stop them completely. Then I found OpenID… damn.

I have a full list of ideas for future things, it’s just finding the programmer to work with me for free before I could pay them, and venture capitalist or angel investors to help me with my start up businesses.

If you believe you could help with one of these, or just want to hear the idea, hit me up.
